Ambato, Or Asiento D'alvibato
AMBATO, or ASIENTO D'AlVIBATO, a town of Ecuador, on the northern slope of Chimborazo, about 65 miles south of. Quinto, 8859 feet above the sea. It was destroyed by an eruption of Cotopaxi in 1698, but was soon rebuilt, and now carries on a flourishing trade in grain, sugar, and cochineal. Population, 12,000.
