solar cell

photovoltaic cell - Energy, Solar, Relatively, Latitude, Sunlight, Generate, Cell, and Expensive

A means of indirectly harnessing solar energy, using panels made from a semiconductor material (usually silicon) that generate electricity when illuminated by sunlight. Solar cells can be used at any latitude, and large installations are required because of the low efficiency of the technology (currently about 15%). The energy they produce is relatively expensive. Also known as a photovoltaic cell .
