Juvenile Crime - Juveniles In Custody

According to the Census of Juveniles in Residential Placement Databook (U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile and Delinquency Prevention, 2002), on October 27, 1999, some 108,931 juveniles were confined in residential custody facilities in the United States. Residential placements include both public and private detention, correctional, and shelter facilities. Of the 104,237 delinquents (criminal offenders) in residential placement on that date, 31,817 had been involved in property offenses, 38,005 in violent offenses, and 9,882 in drug offenses. There were also 4,694 status offenders in residential placement.
