Krakatoa

Which, Atmosphere, Ash, Towns, Places, Sun, Cubic, and Island

A small, steep, forested, uninhabited volcanic island in Indonesia, between Java and Sumatra, which erupted suddenly and violently in 1883 , throwing an estimated 17 cubic kilometres of rock, ash, and pumice high into the atmosphere (which shaded out the Sun in many places for months afterwards), and triggering a catastrophic tsunami that flooded coastal towns and villages on the nearby coasts and drowned 36 000 people.
