net present value (NPV)

Benefits, Total, Values, Discounted, Future, Activity, Stream, and Cost–benefit

The future stream of benefits and costs associated with a particular project or resource‐using activity, converted into equivalent values today. This is estimated by assigning monetary values to benefits and costs, discounting future benefits and costs using an appropriate discount rate, and subtracting the total discounted costs from the total discounted benefits. NPV is used in cost–benefit analysis.
